I created a section for the project as well as an ideas page. As more information comes along I'll post it there for a central repository to keep track of all those goings on with the planning. The mailing list is also up an running.
I re-did the pages in "Defconian Adventures" (DA). Everything now is CSS and there are no images by default, so load time should be very quick. I removed links to the main stotan site, since they're really not necessary and I'm not trying to pimp it. As far as design goes, I'm pretty content staying with the current design. It was originally created in 2004, but it still works well and I find it visually appealing and functional. I'm slowly starting to flesh out the site, creating pages and sections where necessary. Unlike the FAQ, the rest of the DA pages will be slower to come along. The style/pages are valid html 4.01 transitional. At some point I may move to XHTML, but it's really not needed at this point.
The "About this FAQ" page is done as far as Q/A. As I put the different pages online I will update it for linkage, and the third question will be removed once Version 2.0 is done. You can view Convention and Hotel and Travel as the work in progress. The Survival Guide, I probably won't actually publish until it's fully completed. The Credits page will probably expand a bit more than it already has.
So far the questions are done for "The Convention" and "Hotel and Travel" - well, unless some people have really good ones to add. I'm still contemplating what I should do about the "Parties", "Events" and "Contests". I have a few thoughts as to how I could handle it differently, but my mind isn't made up yet. As for the "date of completion", it will definitely be well before February, but I'm trying to err on the side of caution. The "Survival Guide" aka "What you need to know to survive as DefCon" kinda worried me a bit. I've already double it in size as far as questions go, and it's currently hovering around 200. That would be one of the few things that would keep me from pushing the FAQ out before Feb. What's worse is that I still see the usefulness of adding a bunch more questions. Of course if the admission price of DefCon or something else is changed I'll have to rework certain section, but that's not nearly as much a worry as the survival guide.
So I've revamp the site a bit, it appears the same way it did before but the index as well as version 2.0 is all css. It still renders alright if the stylesheet is removed except for the wizard picture which changes position. The only js I have on the site is for google analytics, I really don't check the stats but a while ago someone on the forums mentioned doing a comparative analysis year to year of hits. This was all in relation to the question posed by DT on the forums of whether a certain DefCon would have a lower turnout. I've also added an in page navigation to the different sections for version 2.0 . Though I have no plans to add a "home" link.
I've begun work on Version 2.0 of the UnOfficial DefCon FAQ... 4 years in the making
